An ERP is not one big program. It is a set of modules that share one set of records, and you can start with the two or three that hurt most.

The usual modules

Most small and mid sized ERPs are built from the same blocks.

  • Sales and invoicing
  • Purchasing and suppliers
  • Stock and warehouses
  • Finance and reporting
  • People, leave and payroll

Start where it hurts

If you lose money on stock, start with stock and purchasing. If the office drowns in invoices, start with sales. Each module should pay for itself before you add the next.

Keep the data shared

The value of an ERP is that a sale updates stock and finance without retyping. Insist that modules share records, not copies.
