Sudden power loss corrupts files and shortens the life of equipment. A little protection in the right places keeps most small offices working through an outage.
Protect the right devices
You do not need to power everything. Put a UPS on the devices that matter most.
- The router and fibre box, so the internet stays up
- The server or network storage
- Tills and card machines
- The computers people work on, if they cannot use laptops
Shut down safely
A UPS only buys minutes. Set servers to shut down on their own when the battery runs low, so files are never cut off mid write.
Keep connected
A small battery for the router and a mobile data fallback keep email and cloud systems reachable when the power is off. Test the fallback before you need it.
