Your domain name appears on your invoices, your email and your van. It is hard to change later, so it is worth a careful choice.
Keep it short and easy to say
If you have to spell it out on the phone, it is too hard. Avoid hyphens, numbers and unusual spellings that people will mistype.
Choose the right ending
.co.za tells South African customers that you are local, and .com suits businesses that work abroad. Many businesses register both and point one to the other.
Protect the name
Before you commit, check that the name is not already used by another business in your field.
- Search the name on Google
- Check the company name registers
- Check social media handles
- Register common misspellings if the name is easy to mistype
